National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser has summoned the lower house of parliament session on March 25 at 11am in the Parliament House on the requisition of the opposition, which has sought the tabling of the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan in the house session.

“[NA] Speaker Asad Qaiser has convened a meeting of the National Assembly using the powers vested under Article 54 (3) and Article 254 of the Constitution,” it said in a tweet on Sunday.

The decision comes as PM Imran presides over the party meeting on the prevailing political situation.

According to an official statement issued by the National Assembly Secretariat on Sunday, due to renovations at the Parliament House ahead of the OIC moot, no suitable place would be available to hold the session before March 24.

Since the opposition submitted the requisition on March 8, the 14-day constitutional deadline to convene the NA session on the Opposition requisition will expire on March 21.

“The National Assembly Secretariat requested the Senate Secretariat to provide Chamber of the Senate for holding of National Assembly session. The Senate Secretariat informed that the Senate chamber is also not available being under renovation,” the statement said.

It further said that Chairman CDA and commissioner were also approached for alternative arrangements but none of them had the alternate place available for National Assembly session.

'NA Speaker has the right to delay the vote'

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid has on Sunday said that Speaker NA has the right to delay the vote on the no-confidence motion against PM Imran if circumstances allow it, adding that there are "many rulings" in this regard.

Rashid further said that if the motion is tabled on March 25 then the voting is likely to take place on March 31 or April 1.
