Pakistanis turned to social media to mark the seventh anniversary of the deadly attack on Peshawar’s Army Public School by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan that claimed the lives of 147 young students.

Twitter user Maha-bangash shared an animated photo of a boy in a school uniform walking up an illuminated staircase.

Another user posted a sketch of five APS students, out of which three were killed in the attack. “You rule over the nation’s hearts,” said the picture.

“Always remember the martyrs of APS Peshawar,” said Twitter user farazdaq.

Many remember December 16, 2014 as the day “Pakistanis became one.”

PM Imran Khan also took to Twitter on the occasion and said, “Pakistan has successfully defeated terrorism.”

The premiere promised to never disappoint the survivors and parents of the martyred children.

However, his claims were disregarded by journalist and analyst, Mosharraf Zaidi. “Senior leaders that have been advocating “peace deals” with the TTP” shouldn’t claim any kind of “ownership” of the victims of APS attack, he said.

Author and historian Nadeem F. Paracha also tweeted that one of the things that “killed those students” was “appeasing extremists.”
