TLP announces end of Wazirabad sit-in after govt revokes ban
The Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) on Monday announced an end to its sit-in, a day after the government revoked a ban on the party.
According to news reports, TLP supporters have started packing up and will head back to Lahore within a few hours.
According to Dawn News, a TLP spokesperson on Monday said that the protesters would move to Rehmatul Lil Alameen Mosque as half of their demands have been fulfilled.
The development comes after the interior ministry issued a notification on Sunday removing TLP's name from the list of proscribed outfits.
According to the notification, the step was being taken in view of “the assurance and commitment by the organisation” and “the larger national interest and long term perspective to ensure that such incidents do not recur in future”.
The interior ministry had received a summary after the approval of the federal cabinet on the matter regarding removal of TLP’s proscribed status.
On October 31, the government and TLP reached an agreement after successful negotiations, according to the government’s negotiation team comprising Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi among others.
