Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) acting President and disgruntled lawmaker Zahoor Buledi expressed full confidence that a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Jam Kamal in the provincial assembly would oust him from the position.

"At least 41 members of the BAP and allies made the government in the province in 2018. Now 12 members of the ruling party in Balochistan and three lawmakers of the coalition partners are united in the move against the chief minister in the house of 65 MPAs," Buledi said in Geo's Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada ke Sath on Thursday.

He noted the disgruntled leaders of the party had contacts with the opposition parties' lawmakers to support them in the motion against the chief minister.

Following the refusal of Kamal to resign from chief minister's post, disgruntled ministers, advisers and parliamentary secretaries submitted their resignations to Balochistan governor last week.

Those who resigned were Minister for Finance Mir Zahoor Ahmed Buledi, Minister for Food Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran, Minister for Social Welfare Mir Asad Baloch, advisers to the CM Akbar Askani and Mohammad Khan Lehri, parliamentary secretaries Bushra Rind, Mahjabeen Sheeran, Lala Rashid Baloch and Sikander Umrani.

Later, 14 disgruntled lawmakers, most of them among the ruling BAP, submitted a no-confidence motion against the chief minister in the Assembly Secretariat.

It is pertinent to mention here that in mid-September, 16 opposition members of the Balochistan Assembly submitted a no-confidence motion against the chief minister. However, the Governor House Secretariat had returned the motion to the Balochistan Assembly on technical grounds.

Balochistan Assembly has 65 members, and according to the Constitution, a no-confidence motion needs the signatures of 20 per cent of the make-up of the legislative body to be tabled for discussion. With existing figures, 20pc of 65 members is 13 members, while the no-confidence motion has been signed by 14 members, according to a Dawn report.

Kamal held a meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday in which they discussed political situation in the province and the no-confidence motion against the former.

Before the meeting the chief minister said he would face the motion as he had support of the allies and few disgruntled lawmakers.

In a tweet on Thursday, Kamal shared a letter he had written to Chief Election Commissioner, stating he was still running the BAP affairs as chief and the letter written to the electoral body notifying the acting president had no legal value.

It is pertinent to mention here that Kamal had stepped down from BAP presidency post on October 1. In a series of tweets, he said it was an honour for him to be the first president of the party as he held the position for three years.

However, Kamal retracted from his stance of stepping down from the BAP presidency formally in a press conference on Tuesday, saying he didn't resign from the post and he had no such plans.

The chief minister said some of his friends wanted him to remain party head till the intraparty elections therefore, he would serve the position according to their wishes. He also extended full support to the person who would be elected as next chief of the party.

In 2018, shortly before the Senate elections the dissidents of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and independent candidates formed the BAP.

Kamal, who was then serving as minister of state for petroleum and natural resources under the PML-N government for four and a half years, was appointed president of the new party.
