Pakistan reported 66 deaths from coronavirus in the last 24 hours according to data released by NCOC on Twitter on Wednesday.

According to them, 3,974 tested positive out of 57,460 who tested for coronavirus.

This brings the positivity rate to 6.91%, lower than the past few weeks but experts say this does not suggest Pakistan is out of the woods.

Doctors dismayed for lack of recognition

In related news, doctors have expressed shock at being ignored by the government in their conferring of civilian awards, as reported by Geo on Tuesday.

Only two medical professionals were included in the 126 individuals who received Pakistan Civil Awards in various fields on August 14 from Dr Arif Alvi.

Dr Shehla Baqi from the Dow University of Health Sciences and Dr Muhammad Haroon Memon from Badin received the awards.

At least 168 healthcare professionals died of Covid, according to the Geo report, which includes 102 doctors, one medical student, 61 paramedics and four nurses.

The Pakistan Medical Association believes that the number of fallen healthcare professionals is over 250 in the country.

Dr Saad Niaz, a senior and well respected gastroenterologist in Karachi, said he is considering returning his Sitara-e-Imtiaz, received in 2013 for his contributions in medicine, as a way to record his protest at the exclusion of healthcare professionals from this year's awards.
