Karachi unrest: More than 30 dead, several injured
KARACHI: A recent wave of violence within the city of Karachi has claimed more than 30 lives over the last four days.
Friday
At least 7 people were slain to death on Friday in the capital city of Sindh province.
Reports have indicated 3 individuals were gunned down in the Mansehra Colony area of Landhi while 1 got injured. Another individual was reported to have been shot down in the Shah Faisal Town area.
3 men were shot down in the FB area. The deceased were later identified as Imran, Abdul Basit and Shoaib.
Thursday
5 civilians and 2 policemen were also murdered in different areas of the metropolis on Thursday.
A young man was shot dead by anonymous armed men near Al-Asif Square within the Sohrab Goth area while 2 cops were killed near the Khaibar Chowk of Muhammad Khan Colony, where armed men opened fire on the policemen after they were signaled to stop for checking.
Four people including a child were shot dead and four others injured within the Malir area.
Wednesday
Violent activities on Wednesday snatched the lives of 10 people in different areas of the city. Reports indicated that 2 individuals were killed in the Baldia Town area whilst one individual, later identified as Khurshid Iqbal (Former UC), was gunned down within the Malir area.
One man succumbed to death in a grenade explosion, within the Liaqatabad area, that also resulted in 7 other being injured.
Another individual, identified as Hasnain Malik, was gunned down in Orangi Town area on Wednesday. Police reported the man to be politically affiliated.
A man was shot dead in Dariya abad, Lyari. Another man was shot dead near Banaras flyover.
The tortured dead body of a woman was recovered from New Karachi sector 5-F.
A man was shot at Burns road; later succumbing to his injuries.
A three-day old dead body was recovered from a house in Ghaziaabad, Manghopir.
Tuesday
At least 4 people were assassinated and 4 were injured in different firing incidents within the city on Tuesday. One bullet-riddled body was recovered from the Agha Foundation Graveyard in Malir Cantt.
One person was gunned down by unknown armed men on Super Highway, while a woman was shot in the Landhi area of the city. Another man, later identified as Mehdi Raza, was killed by unknown gunmen in the Nazimabad no. 2 area of Tuesday.
The recent wave of violence is being considered as target killing incidents. Over the last five days, these incidents have claimed more than 30 lives in different parts of the city. Police have reported that majority of the deceased had some political affiliation as well.
