Imran Khan’s sisters, Aleema Khan, Uzma Khanum, and Noreen Niazi, staged a sit-in outside Adiala Jail on Tuesday after being denied permission to meet the incarcerated former prime minister.

The protest at the Factory Checkpost involves a large number of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers, who say the demonstration will continue until they are allowed to meet the party founder, Imran Khan.

Khan’s sisters, accompanied by PTI workers, were stopped by police from proceeding towards the jail.

Security around Adiala Jail was significantly heightened for the day, with Section 144 enforced, heavy police deployment on access routes, anti-rights walls at Gorakhpur, and water cannons stationed outside Gate 5.

The jail administration had received a list of PTI leaders, including Barrister Gohar and five others, authorised to meet Khan. Despite this, no party leader or Khan’s sisters were allowed access on Tuesday.

PTI Secretary-General Salman Akram Raja also joined the sit-in.

Speaking to the media at the Factory Checkpost, he emphasised that expressing solidarity with Khan’s family should not be limited to assembly members.

He further criticised the government for unfulfilled promises to the public following the merger of tribal areas and condemned rising terrorism.

Separately, a delegation from the opposition alliance met with National Awami Party chief Aftab Sherpao at his residence.

The delegation, including Asad Qaiser, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, and Shahram Khan Tareen, invited Sherpao to a national conference scheduled for December 20-21.

Addressing a joint press conference, PTI leader Asad Qaiser said the conference aims to discuss the current state of democracy, the constitution, and voting rights in the country.
