PM Shehbaz expresses solidarity with Iran at Supreme Leader Khamenei's funeral
2 min readPrime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday expressed Pakistan’s solidarity with Iran as he attended funeral ceremonies for Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran.
In a post on X, the prime minister said he had conveyed the condolences of the government and people of Pakistan to Iran’s leadership and people during the funeral ceremony.
“I paid my respects and conveyed the deepest condolences on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan to the government and brotherly people of Iran at the funeral ceremony of the late Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Shaheed Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei,” Shehbaz said.
The prime minister said Khamenei’s “wisdom, leadership and profound influence on Iran and the wider region will be remembered for generations.”
Shehbaz said Pakistan stood with Iran during its time of grief and had sent a high-level delegation to demonstrate solidarity with the Iranian people.
The prime minister led a high-level delegation that included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Zardari, and other senior government officials.
The Pakistani delegation attended funeral and memorial ceremonies being held in Tehran for Khamenei and others killed alongside him.
On this solemn occasion, the prime minister recalled the lasting contributions of the late Supreme Leader for Islam.
He paid rich tribute to the late Supreme Leader, who guided the Iranian nation for decades, with remarkable wisdom and sagacity.
The prime minister expressed full solidarity with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian and the brotherly people of Iran in this moment of national grief and prayed to Allah Almighty for forgiveness of the departed leader.
After attending the ceremony, the prime minister departed for Istanbul for his official visit to Turkiye.
