Pakistan and India on Wednesday completed the latest exchange of lists of prisoners held in each other’s custody under the bilateral Consular Access Agreement.

According to official sources, India handed over to the Pakistan High Commission an updated list of 735 Pakistani nationals currently held in Indian prisons.

The list was provided by India’s Ministry of External Affairs to a senior official of the Pakistani mission.

Documents showed that the Pakistani prisoners in Indian custody include 306 fishermen and 447 other civilian prisoners.

In a reciprocal move, Pakistan handed over to the Indian High Commission a list of 250 Indian prisoners currently held in Pakistan.

The list was provided to a senior Indian diplomat at Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The exchange of prisoners’ lists was carried out under the 2008 Agreement on Consular Access between Pakistan and India, which requires both countries to exchange updated lists of prisoners in each other’s custody twice a year, on January 1 and July 1.
