Pakistan’s Fatima Zahra secured a historic bronze medal in the women’s 60kg boxing event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after her campaign ended with a semi-final defeat against Canada’s Marie-Bathoul Al-Ahmadieh.

Competing in Glasgow, Fatima was beaten by the Canadian boxer in the last-four clash.

The Canadian boxer took a 4-1 lead after the opening round before the referee stopped the contest in the second round.

Despite the defeat, Fatima claimed the bronze medal, having reached the semi-finals with an impressive quarter-final victory over New Zealand’s Jordan Wilson.

The medal marks Pakistan’s first boxing medal at the Commonwealth Games since 2014 and makes Fatima Zahra the first Pakistani woman to win a boxing medal in the history of the Games.

Speaking after the semi-final, Fatima said the achievement was only the beginning and expressed hope of winning gold in future competitions.

“This is our first step. We were hoping to win the gold medal, but this bronze is extremely important for Pakistani women boxers,” she said.

She added that the team had worked hard to reach this stage and viewed the medal as a sign that women’s boxing in Pakistan was moving in the right direction.

“We have come a long way to reach this point. It shows that we are progressing in the right direction,” she said.

The women’s 60kg final will be contested on Saturday between India’s Priya and Canada’s Marie-Bathoul Al-Ahmadieh.
