Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said the economic benefits of the government’s policies would be passed on to the public once regional peace was fully restored, stressing that lasting stability was essential for sustained growth and prosperity.

Speaking during a meeting with women parliamentarians of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the prime minister said the government had made every effort to maximise relief for citizens in the Budget 2026-27 while introducing measures to empower women and expand their role in national development.

He said regional tensions had eased and credited diplomatic efforts for helping restore peace.

The prime minister thanked friendly countries that supported peace initiatives and praised the role of Pakistan’s leadership in managing the crisis.

He said Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi and other members of the government had worked actively to promote peace since the onset of regional tensions.

The prime minister stressed that peace in the region and around the world was critical for countries seeking to achieve their economic development goals.

Highlighting the government’s economic management, Shehbaz said every effort had been made to shield citizens from the impact of global inflation.

“By the grace of Allah, unlike some other countries in the region, Pakistan did not face any crisis, nor were there long queues for fuel,” the prime minister said adding that due to effective planning by the government team, not only were citizens protected from hardship as much as possible, but, in cooperation with federal and provincial governments, a historic relief package was also provided for the middle class and economically vulnerable segments of society.

Referring to austerity measures, the prime minister said sacrifices had begun with the cabinet and government institutions during the recent crisis.

“It was unacceptable for the public to make sacrifices while the elite continue to enjoy privileges,” he added.

He said the government had provided Rs128 billion in subsidies and launched a broad austerity drive to reduce pressure on the public.

The prime minister also thanked provincial governments for working closely with the federation to maintain economic stability and paid tribute to the people of Pakistan for their support during challenging times.

Describing the federal budget as people-friendly, PM Shehbaz said it was designed to accelerate industrial activity and support an export-led economy. He added that next year’s spending plan prioritises water reservoirs, information technology, agriculture and minerals to strengthen the country’s economic foundations.

The prime minister said these achievements reflected the collective efforts of “Team Pakistan” and expressed confidence that the country would continue its journey towards becoming a developed nation.

The women parliamentarians praised the government’s peace efforts and welcomed budget measures aimed at empowering women and promoting equal opportunities in education and development.

Participants also presented proposals related to public welfare projects, education, healthcare, youth employment, industry, communications and food security.
