Lahore Qalandars open PSL 2026 with commanding win
1 min readDefending champions Lahore Qalandars began their Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 campaign with a convincing victory over debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen in the opening match at Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday.
After winning the toss, Lahore captain Shaheen Shah Afridi opted to bat first.
The Qalandars posted a competitive total of 200 runs, powered by a solid start from Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Naeem.
Fakhar struck a half-century, while Naeem contributed 30 runs. Sikandar Raza added 24 runs, and wicketkeeper Haseebullah Khan remained unbeaten on 40 to push the total higher.
For Hyderabad Kingsmen, Riley Meredith and Hasan Khan picked up two wickets each, while Mohammad Ali claimed one.
In response, the Kingsmen struggled from the outset. Opener Usman Khan fell early for nine, and Saim Ayub followed soon after with 17. Captain Marnus Labuschagne was the only batter to cross 20, scoring 26 before being dismissed by Raza.
The match was played without spectators due to government measures linked to regional tensions and energy conservation.
Authorities have restricted PSL 2026 matches to Lahore and Karachi, while the opening ceremony has also been cancelled.
