Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Wednesday claimed that it successfully targeted a US F-18 fighter jet within Iranian airspace, according to an official statement.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards claimed through the state broadcaster that its air defence system shot down a US F-18 fighter jet in the Chabahar region of southern Iran, which later crashed into the Arabian Sea.

Earlier, Commander of Iran’s Navy, Shahram Irani, said that the US aircraft carrier strike group USS Abraham Lincoln was being closely monitored by Iranian forces.

He warned that if the US fleet enters the range of Iranian missiles, it could be targeted.

The Iranian Navy also stated that following the launch of cruise missiles from the coast, the US aircraft carrier reportedly altered its position.
