The Lahore Police have put together a detailed 27-point security plan ahead of the Basant festival and submitted it to the Lahore High Court as required by court orders.

This plan lays out a series of steps to ensure the safety of everyone taking part in the festival.

Drawing on data from the past 10 years, the report highlights key risks, with a special focus on safety concerns related to kite flying.

To manage the crowd and regulate kite flying, Lahore has been divided into red, yellow, and green zones.

The proposal is aimed at maintaining order while allowing people to enjoy the festival at the same time.

In these designated zones, only cotton kite strings and registered kites will be allowed.

There will be zero tolerance for chemical-coated, metallic, and glass-coated kite strings.

Only approved cotton strings will be allowed, and every kite and string must have a QR code registration for tracking.

As per the plan, activities like rooftop drinking, aerial firing, and other illegal actions will be strictly prohibited.

Authorities would take swift action against violators, the report added.

The authorities will carry out continuous surveillance via drones and social media monitoring, while control rooms will ensure public safety and compliance with the law, the plan proposed.

Wearing helmets will be mandatory for all motorcyclists, including the pillion rider, the plan proposed.

As part of the security measures, the entry of motorcycles without antennas will be banned in the red zone.

The authorities will arrange 5,000 rickshaws to provide free transport during the festivities.

Under the plan, the rapid response teams from rescue services, health departments, and traffic police will be on high alert to meet any emergency.
