Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, with the two sides exchanging views on regional and international developments, particularly the evolving situation in the region and efforts to promote peace and stability.

During the conversation, Dar shared with Araghchi the contours of the recently signed Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye, the Foreign Office (FO) said.

During the conversation, Dar shared with Araghchi the contours of the recently signed Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye, the Foreign Office (FO) said.

Araghchi thanked Dar for sharing the key aspects of the agreement.

The two foreign ministers also agreed to remain in close contact on matters of mutual interest.

The call comes days after Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, which Pakistan has described as defensive in nature and aimed at promoting regional peace and stability.

Earlier during the day, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Iran was not concerned that the pact could be aimed at Tehran, highlighting “deep religious, historical and civilisational ties” with Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan.

“Any plan that is based on the geopolitical and historical realities of the region, is comprehensive and inclusive, and correctly identifies the enemy and the threat, has a chance of helping to strengthen security and prevent instability and abuses by the Zionist enemy and its allies,” he said, referring to Israel.
