Five militants were killed in a gun battle with police after a quadcopter attack in Takhti Khel, within the limits of Sarai Naurang police station, officials said on Friday.

Police said the clash erupted after militants used a quadcopter to target a populated area.

According to police, five militants were killed in retaliatory fire. The operation against the attackers was continuing, with police contingents from Lakki Marwat and Bannu taking part.

During the exchange of fire, one civilian was killed while 19 others were injured, including women, children, and police personnel.

Medical Superintendent Dr Ishaq Khan said the injured included five children, one woman, and three police officials. Two of the wounded were shifted to Bannu Hospital in critical condition for further treatment.

Earlier, police said the quadcopter dropped two explosive devices in the area. One bomb fell on a mosque during prayers, while the second landed in a nearby residential locality.

At least 12 people were injured in the initial attack, including seven civilians and five police officials.

Police said there was an intense exchange of fire between militants and local residents, with police and members of local peace committees also engaging the attackers.

Heavy police reinforcements were dispatched, the area was cordoned off, and security was tightened.

A police spokesperson said civilians were deliberately targeted through the quadcopter attack and that the operation would continue until the area was fully cleared.
