Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) on Wednesday following the Pahalgam incident in Indian-occupied Kashmir and New Delhi’s subsequent unilateral actions.

The meeting approved key recommendations to counter what was termed as India’s “diplomatic and water aggression.”

Major retaliatory strategies from Pakistan

  1. Closure of Wagah Border
  2. Suspension of all trade ties with India
  3. Restriction of airspace for any Indian airline
  4. Denial of visas to Indian citizens under the SAARC Scheme, except Sikh pilgrims
  5. Reduction of the Indian High Commission’s staff to 30
  6. Declaring Indian defence advisors persona non grata (Unwelcomed persons)
  7. Forcing defence diplomats to leave the country

The committee reviewed recent hostile Indian actions, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, travel bans on Pakistanis, the closure of the Wagah border, and the downsizing of diplomatic missions. A detailed consultation on Pakistan’s response strategy was held.

NSC decides to approach international forums over Indus Water Treaty violation

The NSC also assessed the internal and external security situation, regional tensions, and the threats to national sovereignty in the wake of what it described as a “false flag operation” in Pahalgam.

Sources said the committee approved a series of strong retaliatory recommendations against Indian diplomatic and water-related hostilities. It firmly rejected all Indian allegations regarding the Pahalgam incident and decided to approach international forums over India’s violations of the Indus Waters Treaty.

The committee resolved that any Indian misadventure would be met with full force and reiterated complete confidence in the operational readiness of Pakistan’s armed forces. The NSC underlined that Pakistan will never compromise on its sovereignty, security, and national dignity.

The official statement termed India’s move to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty as “water aggression” and declared it unacceptable. The NSC also discussed the possibility of suspending all bilateral agreements with India, including the Simla Accord.

Pakistan to respond firmly to India’s diplomatic actions and Indus Waters Treaty suspension

The committee said India’s provocations reaffirm the truth of the two-nation theory and vowed that Pakistan would defend its national security under all circumstances.

The NSC described India’s use of the Pahalgam incident for political gain as “petty and disgraceful,” and reiterated that India’s occupation of Kashmir is a blatant violation of UN resolutions. It also referred to Kulbhushan Jadhav as living proof of India’s state-sponsored terrorism.

The committee reminded the international community that Pakistan remains on the frontlines in the war against terrorism and that India’s propaganda has failed on the global stage.
