Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh has expanded the scope of its protest movement against the controversial canal project and announced the second phase of the protest.

Nisar Ahmed Khuhro stated that the PPP will organize torch-bearing rallies across Sindh tomorrow, against the canal project.

Khuhro, President of PPP Sindh, announced that on Wednesday, April 2, protests in the form of torch-bearing rallies will be held in all the tehsil headquarters of Sindh in the evening, against the canal project on the Indus River.

In a video statement, the President of PPP Sindh, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, stated that the water issue cannot be resolved with a one-day protest, and continuous protests are necessary to exert pressure. He emphasized that the water issue is a matter of Sindh’s future and its people’s livelihood.

Khuhro mentioned that the PPP stands with the people in opposition to the canal project to save their lives. He highlighted that the project is detrimental to Sindh, and thus the people of Sindh will not accept it.

The PPP Sindh president added that the protest against the canals is a fight for the people’s rights. He assured that the PPP will continue to exercise its democratic right by protesting against the canals.

Khuhro further stated that the protest movement will continue until an announcement is made to withdraw the project. He vowed that the people would unite and struggle against the canal project to protect Sindh. If an assault is made on Sindh’s water resources, they will resist.

Earlier, he had announced the protest against the project during a press conference in Karachi with PPP Sindh leaders Waqar Mehdi and Ajaz Dhamrah. He stated that rallies and demonstrations will be held across all district headquarters of Sindh.
