The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has declared that granting a first wife the right to annul her marriage (Faskh-e-Nikah) if her husband remarries without her consent is un-Islamic.

The council stated that any court ruling providing such a right is not valid under Shariah law.

This statement follows a recent Supreme Court verdict that allowed a first wife to dissolve her marriage if her husband took a second wife without permission.

The CII meeting, chaired by Allama Dr Raghib Hussain Naeemi, took place on Wednesday.

Following the two-day session, an official statement was issued outlining several key decisions.

The council announced that a final verdict on the establishment of human milk banks will be made in the next meeting.

It also ruled that organ donation, specifically kidney and liver transplants, is permissible as long as the donor’s life is not at risk.

The council further emphasised that Arabic terms should be used for Islamic terminology instead of English translations.

It was also decided that thalassemia and infectious disease screening could be included as an optional part of the Nikah contract.

In addition, the council stressed the importance of distributing Zakat funds promptly to those in need.

During the meeting, special prayers were also offered for the late mother of Chief of Army Staff, General Syed Asim Munir.
