President Asif Ali Zardari has conferred the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, one of Pakistan’s highest civilian awards, on Umar Farooq Zahoor, a Dubai-based businessman of Pakistani origin, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the country’s economy.

According to reports, Zahoor was honoured for bringing over $700 million in foreign direct investment (FDI) to Pakistan over the past three years, with projects spanning infrastructure, ports, logistics, energy, agriculture, IT, and real estate.

Government sources estimate that ongoing projects worth over $2 billion are currently underway due to his efforts.

The award was presented at a special presidential investiture ceremony at the President House in connection with Pakistan Day, where over 100 distinguished individuals, both Pakistani and foreign, were recognised for their achievements.

Being recognised by my homeland with this prestigious award is truly humbling. I remain committed to supporting Pakistan’s economic growth and enhancing its global standing.”

Beyond his investment efforts, Zahoor has played a key role in strengthening Pakistan’s economic ties with Gulf nations, leveraging his regional network to facilitate strategic partnerships.

In a separate achievement, Zahoor was appointed as a Pro Bono Ambassador at Large by the Intergovernmental Institution for the Use of Micro-algae Spirulina Against Malnutrition (IIMSAM), an observer to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). This role tasks him with promoting Spirulina, a nutrient-rich algae, in support of the UN’s fight against global malnutrition.

Zahoor’s contributions continue to make a significant impact on both Pakistan’s economic landscape and global humanitarian efforts.
