Pakistan, Afghanistan restore diplomatic and trade ties after envoy’s Kabul visit
Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to maintain bilateral ties as diplomatic and trade relations resume following recent tensions.
Pakistan’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan Muhammad Sadiq Khan met with Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi in Kabul to discuss improving relations and strengthening high-level engagements. According to the Foreign Office, Sadiq Khan is on an official visit to Kabul from March 21 to 23 to enhance cooperation and fortify bilateral ties between the two countries. Both sides expressed a commitment to ongoing dialogue and improving diplomatic cooperation.
Meanwhile, pedestrian movement at the Torkham border has also resumed alongside trade activities. Travelers with valid visas and passports are now allowed to cross into Afghanistan. The immigration section reopened after 25 days of repairs following damage sustained during clashes between Pakistan and Afghan forces on February 21.
Trade activities resumed earlier this week, with the Torkham border opening on Wednesday for commercial transport and medical emergencies. On average, around 10,000 people cross the Torkham border daily, highlighting the critical role of this crossing in facilitating movement between the two nations.
