Torkham border immigration system reinstated, enabling pedestrian access to Afghanistan
The immigration computer system at the Torkham border has been restored, allowing for the resumption of pedestrian movement to Afghanistan starting today.
Sources confirmed that the immigration section was reopened following the completion of necessary repair work.
However, only travelers with valid visas and passports will be permitted to cross.
This is the first time in 25 days that the border has been accessible for trade, which resumed on March 21.
The immigration computer system at the Torkham border has failed once more, leading to a suspension of pedestrian traffic to Afghanistan on Friday.
Immigration officials reported that, during the closure, only Afghan patients were allowed to enter Pakistan.
The system was reportedly damaged by gunfire from Afghan forces, which typically facilitates around 10,000 crossings daily.
