Torkham border immigration system failure halts pedestrian traffic to Afghanistan
The immigration computer system at the Torkham border has failed once more, leading to a suspension of pedestrian traffic to Afghanistan today.
Officials expected repairs to be completed by the end of the day.
Traffic is set to resume from March 22 after the border was closed on Friday (today) due to tensions.
The system was reportedly damaged by gunfire from Afghan forces, which typically facilitates around 10,000 crossings daily.
The Pakistan-Afghanistan Torkham trade route has reopened for vehicular movement after 25 days following a successful flag meeting between officials from both countries.
The Torkham border was reopened for cargo movement on February 25, six days after being closed by the Afghan Taliban.
