A stunning meteor was spotted streaking across the sky over Karachi in the early hours of Monday, captivating residents of Pakistan’s largest city.

The meteor was observed at 2:43am, with many citizens capturing the moment on their cameras, leading to viral videos on social media.

Experts explained that millions of meteors, often referred to as “shooting stars,” orbit Earth and are visible at various times throughout the year. Meteors are fragments of asteroids that enter the Earth’s atmosphere, creating a fiery display as they burn due to friction with oxygen and gravitational forces.

NASA reports that between 100 and 300 tons of space dust and rocks fall to Earth daily, though most are no larger than a grain of sand.

Asteroids can carry a range of materials, including valuable metals like iron, nickel, and platinum, which could be beneficial for future resource extraction.

Some asteroids are believed to contain significant amounts of water, which could support future space missions by providing essential drinking water and fuel through hydrogen extraction.

The presence of asteroids also poses potential risks to Earth. Large asteroid collisions can lead to catastrophic events, including massive explosions, climate shifts, and even mass extinctions.
