PM expresses anger over sugar price hike
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed strong displeasure over the surge in sugar prices, prompting the Ministry of Production to summon sugar mill owners and major dealers to Islamabad tomorrow.
According to ministry sources, the government’s reputation has suffered due to its decision to allow sugar exports.
A written agreement was in place with sugar mill owners and major dealers ensuring that prices would remain stable.
However, despite this agreement, sugar prices soared from Rs124 to Rs170 per kilogram following export approvals granted to mill owners under the Sugar Mills Association’s commitment.

Several sugar dealers have been arrested, and records have been seized as part of the investigation. More details are expected as the inquiry unfolds.
