Sugar prices soar to record Rs180/kg in Pakistan during Ramazan
Sugar prices in Pakistan have reached a record high of Rs180/kg in major cities, increasing the financial burden on consumers during Ramazan.
The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) indicated an increase of Rs14.22/kg, with the highest prices observed in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Karachi.
Other cities, including Quetta, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Lahore, and Peshawar, are seeing prices between Rs175 and Rs176/kg.
Despite the price surge, sources indicate that Pakistan’s sugar reserves remain adequate until October 2025. By February, 56 million tons of sugarcane had been crushed, yielding 5.3 million tons of sugar.
The government has exported 741,000 metric tons of sugar and currently holds reserves of 400,000 to 500,000 tons with sugar mills.
