PTI yet to finalise protest decision, says Junaid Akbar

Multiple options are under consideration; the final call to be made by Imran Khan

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President and senior leader Junaid Akbar Khan has stated that while various protest options are being considered, no final decision has been made yet.

He emphasised that the party will follow whatever directive is issued by PTI founder Imran Khan.

Speaking on Aaj TV’s programme “News Insight with Amir Zia”, Junaid Akbar also addressed Fawad Chaudhry’s criticism of the PTI leadership, saying that such remarks were unnecessary.

He maintained that every individual has flaws, but the party remains satisfied with Imran Khan’s leadership.

Akbar acknowledged the existence of internal party differences but stressed that everyone has a fair chance to progress within PTI.

He assured that PTI workers will support whoever has Imran Khan’s backing.

The PTI leader hinted at a potential protest after Eid, in coordination with opposition parties. He revealed that discussions with various political groups are ongoing.

The final decision on whether the protest will take place in Islamabad or Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be made by Imran Khan.

Regarding Sher Afzal Marwat’s return to PTI, Junaid Akbar said he would discuss the matter on merit when he meets Imran Khan.

Economist challenges official population figures

Talking in the programme, prominent economist Dr Ashfaque Hasan Khan challenged Pakistan’s official population figures, claiming that the actual number is between 170 to 180 million, rather than 250 million as reported.

Speaking on the same program, he explained that resource distribution in Pakistan is based on population, leading provinces to inflate their numbers.

He pointed out that in the past, families falsely increased household members on ration cards to gain more benefits.

Dr Hasan also highlighted that resource distribution based on population is rare globally, with 28 countries following different models. He noted that even India has revised its strategy and urged Pakistan to reduce income disparities among provinces.

He further emphasised that better governance can be achieved by creating smaller administrative units within the country, given the rapidly growing population.
