Ride-hailing Careem Pakistan has used Aaj News report for its advertisement on social media while reacting to the story of an American woman in Karachi.

“Ahmed apna wada pura karey na karey, Careem zaroor karega. Safe aur secure rides ka,” the company’s X, erstwhile Twitter, account said in a post.

The ridesharing application shared a clip from the Aaj News TV clip which showed that the alleged husband of an American woman left the woman stranded.

Onijah Robinson, a 33-year-old American citizen, travelled to Karachi in October to meet her “online friend”. But the 19-year-old boy allegedly abandoned her, citing his family’s disapproval of their marriage, and has since gone missing, reports said.

Robinson reportedly left her family in the United States to be with the boy. The situation gained public attention when Zaffar Abbas, founder of the Jafriya Disaster Management Cell Welfare Organisation, shared her story on social media. In response, Tessori intervened to extend Robinson’s expired visa and arrange a flight home.

Despite these efforts, Robinson refused to return to the US, reports said. Instead, she took a taxi to Memon’s apartment complex, where she spent nearly 30 hours in the parking lot before moving to a Chhipa charity shelter. She is expected to stay there until her eventual return to the United States.

It is not yet confirmed if Robinson and the boy are married as claimed by the American woman. At one point in a press conference with philanthropist Ramzan Chhipa on January 31, she said that she needed $100,000 to fix up the country.

Last week, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori urged people to not make memes and fun of a distraught American woman, who has been in Karachi since October for her alleged lover.
