‘Troubling and Unjust’: FO reacts to Gaza displacement plan
Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) has strongly condemned proposals to displace the population of Gaza, calling them “troubling and unjust.”
Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan’s remarks follow U.S. President Donald Trump’s suggestion that Palestinians be permanently resettled in neighboring countries. Trump, in discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, referred to Gaza as a “demolition site” and reiterated his call for Jordan and Egypt to absorb the Gazan population.
He argued that Palestinians had no choice but to leave the coastal strip, which requires rebuilding after a protracted war between Israel and Hamas.
The FO firmly stated that Palestinian land belongs to the Palestinian people and that the only just solution is a two-state solution in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions. Pakistan reiterated its unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, emphasizing the need for a sovereign, independent, and contiguous Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The FO’s statement condemned any attempts to displace Palestinians or expand illegal settlements, deeming such actions violations of international law and threats to regional peace and security.
Pakistan also demanded the return of all displaced Palestinians to their homes and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied territories. The country urged increased humanitarian aid, the removal of obstacles, and coordinated international efforts for the swift reconstruction of Gaza.
