Trump confirms Microsoft’s interest in TikTok acquisition amid national security concerns
US President Donald Trump has said that Microsoft is among the companies exploring the acquisition of TikTok to prevent a potential ban due to national security issues, international media reported.
Trump responded affirmatively, stating, “I would say yes.” He noted there is significant interest in TikTok but did not disclose a complete list of interested US firms.
“I like bidding wars because you make your best deals,” Trump remarked while travelling from Miami to Washington, DC, aboard Air Force One. Microsoft chose not to comment on the matter and TikTok has yet to respond to inquiries.
On January 18, TikTok temporarily ceased operations in the US to comply with a law requiring its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to divest from the platform or risk a ban.
After taking over the office, Trump suspended enforcement of the law for 75 days to allow time for finding a viable solution to the ban.
During his first term, Trump sought to ban TikTok over alleged national security risks but shifted his position during the 2024 presidential campaign, promising to “save” the platform.
