The Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10 draft has established some rules for all six teams to select their desired players.

There are four steps to pick the players, which are as follows:

Step 1: Local players’ category renewal

A voting mechanism will be implemented to determine the player categories for local players.

All franchises will participate in the voting process, but teams must refrain from voting for their players. Unanimous decisions will finalize the player categories; in cases of split voting, the final committee will have the ultimate say.

Step 2: Relegation requests

Teams will have the opportunity to float their players to other franchises, which can express interest in the players based on their categories.

For instance, Hassan Ali was nominated as a platinum player by selectors, but after relegation by Karachi Kings to the diamond category, he faced contention as Islamabad United sought to place him in the gold category. Ultimately, other franchises agreed on his diamond status, keeping him in that category.

In this step, the trade window will open for various types of transactions:

• Player for player
• Player for pick
• Player for money

An example includes the trades of Imad Waseem and Hassan Ali, which were exchanged through player-for-player and player-for-pick trades.

Step 3: Player relegation

Each franchise can retain up to eight players while players will have the autonomy to decide their draft preferences.

Step 4: Player draft rules

Teams must adhere to specific player combination rules during the draft. Each team is required to have three Platinum players, which must include at least one local and one foreign player.

Teams must also select three Diamond players, with a minimum of one local and one foreign player. For the Gold category, teams need to have three players, ensuring that at least three foreign players are represented across the Platinum, Diamond, and Gold categories.

Furthermore, a minimum of five foreign players must be included in the first 16 picks of the draft. After such initial selections, teams can choose up to two additional foreign players in the supplementary rounds.

In addition to such categories, teams may have five Silver players, two Emerging players, and four Supplementary players. Overall, each team must maintain a roster of no fewer than 16 players and no more than 20 players.

Teams will have access to four essential tools during the process:

• Mentor: Can be utilised once to influence player categories.
• Brand Ambassador: First use, with the potential to demote a player’s category.
• Wild Card: Used during the draft to elevate a player to a higher category.
• Right to Match: Allows teams to reclaim a player released into the draft from the previous season.

The Pakistan Super League season 10 player draft will be broadcast live today (Monday) at 1:10pm from Huzoori Bagh in Lahore Fort. Fans can watch the event on PTV Sports, A Sports, and the official PSL YouTube channel, with studio coverage starting at 12:30 PM.
