KE removes over 301 illegal connections weighing 480kg in Karachi’s Baldia

The K-Electric (KE), in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, removed over 301 illegal connections weighing 480 kilogrammes in the city’s Baldia IBC areas, including Iqbal Road, Delhi Colony, Mujahid Colony, and Turk Colony.

In a statement, it said that last year around 4,500 kunda removal drives were conducted in Baldia cluster where over 30,000 illegal connections were removed.

“These illegal connections violate safety standards, damaging K-Electric’s infrastructure and posing serious safety risks to residents. The operation aims at reducing losses caused by electricity theft and creating a safer community by eliminating such hazards,” it said.

According to the statement, 70% of KE’s network was exempt from load-shedding. It claimed that efforts were underway to reduce losses in high-theft areas.

“Electricity theft and unpaid bills are the two main factors that determine load-shedding durations in an area. Areas with lower losses experience little to no load-shedding, highlighting the benefits of responsible electricity use and timely bill payments.”

In 2024, KE conducted around 25,000 kunda removal drives across the city to combat electricity theft. “These targeted operations resulted in the removal of more than 250,000 kundas, weighing around 350,000kg of illegal wiring.”

It appealed to its customers, community leaders, and local representatives to discourage electricity theft and ensure timely payment of bills.
