Apple has launched iOS 18.2, introducing new Apple Intelligence features along with 21 essential security updates that iPhone users are urged to install immediately.

This latest update is a strong incentive for many users to transition from iOS 17 to iOS 18, particularly due to the critical security fixes included. iOS 18.2 addresses significant vulnerabilities in both the iPhone Kernel and WebKit, the engine behind the Safari browser, patching flaws that could potentially allow attackers to execute malicious code on devices.

The release of iOS 18.2 coincides with Apple ending the option for users to choose whether to upgrade to iOS 18.

Additionally, Apple has rolled out iOS 17.7.3 for older devices, which fixes 14 security flaws. However, the list of compatible devices for this update is considerably smaller than previous iOS 17 updates, now limited to the iPad Pro 12.9-inch 2nd generation, iPad Pro 10.5-inch, and iPad 6th generation.

This shift indicates that Apple is no longer permitting users with iOS 18-compatible devices to remain on iOS 17. Staying on iOS 17 means users will not receive security updates.

The urgency of these security updates, combined with the lack of a secure option on iOS 17, emphasizes the importance of updating to iOS 18.2. Furthermore, this update includes exciting new features, such as the integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT with Siri for the first time.
