It is time to say farewell to your old iPhones, as Apple is planning to release the new iOS 17 which is rumoured to support devices with A12 chipsets or above.

This means the company would be dropping new software support for a number of iPhones, including the iPhone X, and the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus ¬– all launched in late 2017.

Apple devices have a general reputation for longevity when it comes to software support. However, as all good things must come to an end, fits perfectly in this scenario if rumours are to be believed.

According to MacRumors, the new update might support the sixth-generation and seventh-generation iPad models, which have the A10 Fusion chip, and the second-generation 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro with the A10X Fusion chip.

Most reports indicate that iOS 17 will be a somewhat incremental update, focusing more on Apple’s commitment to complying with European legislation.

The iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 are expected to make their debut at WWDC 2023, alongside the Apple AR/VR headset.

Last year, iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 dropped support for quite a few devices, including the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, original iPhone SE, final iPod touch, second-generation iPad Air, and fourth-generation iPad mini.
