‘Decisive’ meeting over Champions Trophy tomorrow
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is ramping up its efforts to influence the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding its hosting demands for the Champions Trophy.
Reports suggest that a decisive meeting will occur on Wednesday, December 11, to finalize the tournament’s hosting and the proposed hybrid model.
There is a strong likelihood that the Champions Trophy will be conducted under this hybrid format, which may also be applied to all events scheduled in India through 2027.
The PCB has argued that India’s claims of security concerns preventing its team from traveling to Pakistan are unfounded.
The board has stated that if India does not send its team to Pakistan, it will reciprocate by not participating in any future ICC events hosted in India.
An informal agreement between the two boards indicates that this approach will extend to several ICC tournaments, including the Champions Trophy, Women’s World Cup, and the T20 World Cup in 2026.
Furthermore, the PCB is advocating for the inclusion of bilateral agreements between the Pakistan and India boards in the host agreement for the Champions Trophy, though details on this matter remain scarce.
