The Pakistan Cricket Board has sacked two media managers who accompanied the national side in the World Cup, sources said, as the Green Shirts reels with aftershocks of disastrous performance in the mega event.

They added that Ahsan Iftikhar Nagi and Umar Farooq Kalson would have been dismissed from their jobs.

According to sources, a new manager would be appointed for the Australia tour next month.

Pakistan were not able to make it to the semifinals in the World Cup in India, as fans and experts criticised the team’s approach in the 50-over game.

The national side’s bad performance led to resulted in Babar Azam’s decision to quit captaincy in all formats. However many did not appreciate the decision and called for overhauling the system.

Earlier in the day, newly appointed Chief Selector Wahab Riaz announced the 18-member Test squad for Australia. Former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed made a comeback into the national team.

The tour, which is scheduled from December 14, 2023, to January 7, 2024, would see new faces Saim Ayub and Khurram Shahzad in action.

The side would be led by left-handed batter Shan Masood.

“The squad has been assembled keeping in mind the challenging Australian conditions. We have kept the pitches in mind and added more pace bowling resources to the team to ensure that the management can be flexible with the team combinations in all three Test matches,” Riaz told reporters on Monday.
