K-Electric promises cheaper electricity for Karachi residents
K-Electric has established Karachi’s first 500 kV grid station, marking a historic achievement after decades of effort.
This new infrastructure will enable the supply of more affordable electricity to the city from the Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (KANUPP).
Completed in just 22 months, the KKI grid station serves as a crucial transmission link between the National Grid and K-Electric’s network, enhancing energy security for local industries and southern regions of Pakistan.
Moonis Alvi, CEO of K-Electric, expressed appreciation for the collaboration among various stakeholders, including the Government of Pakistan, Government of Sindh, NEPRA, and others.
He emphasized the project’s importance, stating, “This grid station will make it possible to supply affordable electricity to the city.”

The foundation stone for the station was laid in December 2022, and its completion is seen as a major step forward for both K-Electric and Karachi.
