Dr Zakir Naik addresses critics after leaving stage at Islamabad event

Naik defends his actions amidst controversy over stage exit

Dr Zakir Naik has responded to backlash stemming from a viral video showing him leaving the stage during an event in Islamabad. The occasion, organized by the non-governmental organization “Pakistan Sweet Home” aimed to honor orphaned children, with Dr Naik serving as the chief guest.

As the event concluded, Zamarud Khan, chairman of Sweet Home, invited Dr. Naik to present shields to the orphaned girls. However, as the girls approached, Dr. Naik stepped back and exited the stage.

Earlier, during a public gathering at the Governor House in Sindh, Dr Naik explained that he had been invited to meet orphaned children.

Although he had limited time, he agreed to attend for about 10 minutes. Upon arrival, he found that the event primarily focused on photo opportunities rather than the children.

He mentioned that while he gave a speech, he later expressed concern when women were invited to the stage, noting that they were all adults. An event staff member insisted they were girls, prompting Dr. Naik to question the appropriateness of the situation.

Dr. Naik highlighted the importance of not touching a girl once she reaches adulthood. He expressed surprise at the criticism he received in Pakistan, questioning the current state of societal norms in the country.

He also commented on the owner of the orphanage, who referred to the girls as his daughters, stating that even he should refrain from physical contact with them. Dr. Naik noted that in India, Hindus respect him by keeping girls at a distance.
