IHC revokes physical remand for PTI MNAs
The Islamabad High Court has revoked the physical remand for PTI leaders arrested after a rally in Sangjani.
The courtroom erupted in laughter during the hearing when Chief Justice Aamer Farooq remarked that the FIR was a “great comedy” and questioned whether it was written by Islamabad Police at all.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Saman Rafaat Imtiaz heard the petitions related to the cases registered and arrests made following the PTI rally.
The Prosecutor General appeared for the state, while the defendants were represented by Vice Chairman of the Islamabad Bar Council, Aadil Aziz Qazi, and Raja Aleem Abbasi, Advocate.
At the outset of the hearing, Chief Justice Farooq remarked, “The state has arrived. I have seen all the physical remand orders, they are all the same. Let the state respond, what happened that an eight-day physical remand was granted? This is an unprecedented action. We need to understand what transpired to warrant an eight-day remand.”
The Prosecutor General read out the FIR, prompting Chief Justice Farooq to comment, “The author of this FIR is also interesting. Is this the Islamabad Police or Razia who got caught in a mess? Institutions have their own dignity. Credit must be given, after a long time, we have witnessed a good comedy. Whoever wrote this FIR, they have written a good comedy.”

Questioning the allegations, Justice Farooq asked, “A pistol was placed on Shujaib Shaheen. I don’t know Shujaib Shaheen? Gohar Khan is claiming that a pistol was taken out. You and I don’t know Gohar? You have read the comedy, now what do you want to recover from them?”
The Islamabad Prosecutor General informed the court that a stick was recovered from Shoaib Shaheen, prompting the Chief Justice to laugh, followed by laughter in the courtroom.
The Prosecutor General further informed the court that a pistol was recovered from Sher Afzal Marwat.
Chief Justice Farooq remarked, “It’s been four days, you have done what you had to do. Why was an eight-day remand granted?
