The Sindh government has reversed its earlier decision to keep schools open on Saturdays, restoring a two-day weekend for all public and private educational institutions across the province.

The decision was formally approved by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and announced by the Sindh Education Department on Wednesday.

Under the revised policy, schools will operate Monday through Friday, while Saturday and Sunday will be observed as weekly holidays.

To ensure the timely completion of the academic syllabus and minimise the impact of the reduced school week, daily teaching hours will be extended by one hour, according to the official notification.

The Education Department said the move was made in line with the provincial government’s austerity measures, efficient use of available resources, and efforts to conserve energy while maintaining educational standards.

The revised schedule will apply uniformly to all government and private schools across Sindh.

The announcement comes days after the provincial government had introduced a six-day school week following the end of the two-month summer vacation.

A notification issued last month had directed all public and private schools to remain open from Monday to Saturday starting August 1, 2026, with Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah also confirming the decision through a social media post.

The latest notification supersedes that policy.
