New monsooon spell brings heavy rainfall across Pakistan
A new monsoon spell has hit Pakistan, bringing heavy rains and widespread flooding across the country. The downpours have left low-lying areas submerged, power supplies disrupted, and at least nine people and 40 livestock stranded.
Torrential rains have been reported in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan, with several cities including Narowal, Mianwali, and Bhera experiencing intermittent heavy showers. In Larkana and Qambar-Shahdadkot, overnight downpours have inundated low-lying areas, leading to power outages.
The Nullah Bein in Shakargarh is experiencing high flood levels. Rescue officials report that nine people and 40 livestock are stranded in Chatri and Rai Pur. Rescue operations are underway to evacuate farmers and herders trapped in the Nala Bein.
Floodwaters have entered dozens of low-lying villages, including Chatri Broti and Fatehpur, threatening thousands of acres of rice and maize crops.
The Chenab River is also experiencing high flood levels. The current monsoon spell is predicted to continue until August 25th.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert, warning of potential urban flooding and landslides in mountainous areas. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed all relevant agencies, including the NDMA, to remain on high alert.
Karachi experienced light overnight showers, bringing some relief from the heat and leaving the morning skies overcast.
