The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that the city of Karachi will face heavy rainfall and thunderstorms through Monday, potentially leading to urban flooding in the coming days.

According to the weather alert issued by the PMD on Thursday, a weather disturbance is expected to affect eastern Sindh, including the country’s largest city.

“Karachi will face heavy rain and thunderstorms until Monday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) stated on Thursday,” the department confirmed.

The Met Office cautioned that the heavy rainfall could cause urban flooding in the city’s sewage channels and low-lying areas, which are home to a population of over 20 million people.

The warning extends beyond just Karachi, with the PMD also predicting significant monsoon rains across other parts of Pakistan, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, and several other cities and districts in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Sindh.
