Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) Country Director, Ms. Coco Ushiyama, held a meeting to discuss strengthening their collaboration on several fronts. The Chief Minister recognized the enduring partnership between the Sindh government and WFP in addressing humanitarian and development challenges in the province.

During the meeting, the two sides agreed to work together more closely in areas such as disaster preparedness, response, and mitigation, climate change adaptation, addressing acute malnutrition and stunting, school meal programs, and expanding food storage capacity (silos) under WFP’s 5-year Country Strategic Plan.

Specific areas of discussion included the successful collaboration on post-disaster needs assessment and the Resilient Recovery, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Framework for flood recovery in 2022.

The WFP is also involved in disaster risk reduction and management programs in Sindh.

Additionally, the Sindh government, with WFP’s support under the Benazir Income Support Programme, is providing nutrition, health, and social services to over 830,000 pregnant/breastfeeding women and children in the province.

The Chief Minister also discussed the need to enhance wheat storage capacity in the province, with WFP’s support through a public-private partnership.
