A UN agency has warned that new Israeli military orders for evacuations from Khan Younis could affect an estimated 250,000 people, prompting Pakistan to demand immediate intervention to stop the genocide in Gaza.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Ambassador Munir Akram said, “There is no situation more deserving of immediate intervention than stopping the genocide in Gaza, where the international community has failed to restore peace.”

UN human rights workers warned that “chaos and panic” are spreading in southern Gaza, where an estimated 250,000 people are affected by new Israeli military evacuation orders from Khan Younis.

Addressing the situation in Gaza during a UN General Assembly debate, Ambassador Akram questioned the international community’s response, asking why some are preventing the Security Council from calling for a ceasefire, while others are supplying Israel with weapons, even as the International Court of Justice has been asked to stop this reprehensible genocide.

He said that Resolution 2735 (calling for a ceasefire in Gaza) has not been implemented, and Israeli military operations continue unabated.

He said, “Is this not a situation where the Security Council, acting under the Genocide Convention, should intervene to provide protection to the affected population of Gaza, bolstered by the R2P principle?”
