Lahore court frees 140 PTI workers

Court highlights the lack of evidences in pre-election rally case

A Lahore courtfreed around 140 workers of Pakistan Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) political party. The workers were charged in a case related to holding a pre-election rally.

Judicial magistrate Salman Nadir issued a written verdict with clear statement that accused statement lacks the evidences, in July 2024.

The case was initially filed by the local police station against PTI leader Irfan Saleem and other 130 unidentified persons over a rally held on January 1, on Ring Road.

The Court also discovered that the arrest was not made during the protest. They also pointed out persons involved in protest did not carry any illegal material.

Court further added to their statements that there were no complaints reported by the residents related to road blockage, and the protest was carried out peacefully that day.

The court emphasized that peaceful protest is a fundamental right and the charges could not be upheld due to lack of evidences.
