Pak expats in UAE urged to use official channels for remittances

The UAE currently holds the second-highest share of remittances to Pakistan

Pakistan’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, has urged Pakistani citizens residing in the UAE to utilize official channels for remittances and financial transactions. This call, made during the launch of the online payments platform KuickPay, aims to promote transparency and strengthen Pakistan’s economy.

The UAE is a major source of remittances for Pakistan, with over 1.7 million Pakistanis contributing to the country’s financial wellbeing.

Recent data shows a 3.5% increase in workers’ remittances from July to April this year, driven by global economic recovery and strong performance in key remittance corridors like the US, UK, and EU.

The UAE currently holds the second-highest share of remittances to Pakistan, contributing $3.7 billion, following Saudi Arabia with $5.1 billion. This trend is expected to continue, with over 230,000 Pakistanis migrating to the UAE in 2023 seeking better opportunities.

By encouraging the use of formal channels, the ambassador aims to improve transparency and accountability in the financial system, ultimately benefitting both Pakistan and its citizens residing abroad.
