Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf almost lost his cool and went to attack one of his supporters in the United States of America city after the latter disrespected him and his family.

“I decided not to bring this on social media, but now that the video is out, I feel it is necessary to address the situation,” he said in a social media post on Sunday.

His reaction came after a video of him with a fan went viral. The video, which prompted the pacer to give a reaction, shows Rauf involved in an argument with a fan as his wife tries to stop him.

The timing and date of the video could not be verified, but it seems the incident happened after Pakistan’s dismal performance at the T20 World Cup.

The Green Shirts faced an early exit from the mega event after humiliating losses to the USA and India in the group-stage matches. Their elimination from the tournament was confirmed after rain abandoned the USA and Ireland match.

The co-host’s defeat could have kept Pakistan’s hopes alive in the T20 World Cup. “Dishearted” fans have demanded that heads must roll after the disastrous performance while the team’s skipper Babar Azam has admitted that the team’s performance has let down their fans and nation.

On Monday, local media claimed that white-ball coach Gary Kirsten slammed the team for lack of unity and fitness.

Fans back home, former cricket stars, and celebrities have reprimanded the team for their performance.

According to Rauf, public figures are open to all kinds of feedback, but not disrespect.

“As public figures, we are open to receiving all kinds of feedback from the public. They are entitled to support or criticise,” he said in the post.

The fast bowler warned that he would not hesitate to respond if someone misbehaved.

“Nevertheless, when it comes to my parent and my family, I will not hesitate to respond accordingly. It is important to show respect towards people and their families, irrespective of their professions.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi condemned the “appalling incident”, saying that such actions against national players were “completely unacceptable” and would not be tolerated.

“Those who are involved must immediately apologise to Haris Rauf, failing which we will pursue legal action against the individual responsible,” he said.
