Pakistan out of T20 World Cup race as rain abandons USA, Ireland match
Pakistan and Ireland were out of the T20 World Cup race after the match between the USA and Ireland was abandoned due to rain on Friday.
The ground staff battled to remove standing water in the outfield and the umpires checked the conditions, but rain intermittently continued.
South Florida has suffered heavy rain and flooding and the game on Tuesday at Lauderhill between Sri Lanka and Nepal was abandoned.
After the Group A game was abandoned, the USA qualified for the Super Eights stage, along with group leader India. The US shared a point each with Ireland.
The outcome of the Pakistan and Ireland match on the same ground does not matter as Friday’s result has sealed the fate of Group A which also comprised the archrivals.
The Green Shirts’ performance has been lacklustre in the mega event, with the visitors facing a humiliating defeat to the co-hosts, the US, and India.
Fans around the world and cricket experts have slammed the team’s performance in the T20 World Cup.
A Super Over thriller in Texas on June 7 saw T20 World Cup debutants the United States beat the 2022 finalists and 2009 winners in one of the biggest upsets in the history of the competition.

Against India on June 10, Pakistan’s batting collapsed as they could not chase the paltry target of 120.
Legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram had reprimanded the national cricket team, stressing the need for changes in it.
“Pakistan team doesn’t need enemies. They themselves are enough. Should we spoon-feed them everything? Should we need to tell them what the situation is?” he had said in a TV show after the loss to India. “Now I’ve started feeling embarrassed. As a Pakistani, I want to back the Pakistan team but. But there is a limit to everything. It was a very sad day for Pakistan cricket, unfortunately.”
