Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz again dons police uniform, this time it’s Elite Force
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz again donned the police uniform when she attended the passing out parade of the province’s Elite Force. She was seen in the black uniform of the police force at the event.
In her address to the policemen, the Punjab Chief Minister said she was “delighted” to attend the passing out parade in the uniform.
“Today, in a show of solidarity with you. I want to tell you I am amongst you. I have donned your uniform,” Maryam said as praised the new entrants to the police force for their six months of training.
“It is not just a uniform. You are among those fortunate people who get the opportunity to wear this uniform as it is not just a uniform. It is that national duty which is bestowed upon a few people.”
PML-N leaders and Punjab IGP Usman Anwar accompanied her at the event in Lahore. Maryam, the daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, was invited to the event as a chief guest.
She also reviewed the police company and honoured successful cadets with awards.
As many as 860 cadets – out of the 1,100 recruited – completed the six months training. Of them, 70 were women.
Maryam announced that she would incentivise the cadets as their hard work was being noticed. She hailed the passion of martyrs serving the country in the Elite Force, praying for them.
She praised IG for his transformation in the Punjab Police and has pledged to provide the latest technology, and budget to strengthen the team.
While speaking about security, she stated that Punjab shares the border with three provinces and lauded the policemen for averting attacks on checkposts.
“We provided them [police] with eight thermal imaging cameras, and bulletproof vehicles can be provided to them,” she said.
She reiterated that wearing a uniform was an “honour and a big test”. The Punjab CM expressed hope that trained and educated people entering the force would bring a change in society.
In April, she also arrived at a passing-out ceremony for women constables and traffic assistants decked out in a Punjab police uniform.
Her appearance had caused quite a stir as politicians from rival parties criticised her decision to wear a police uniform.
“After wearing the police uniform for the first time, I have realised that being a police officer or being sworn in as a CM is a very responsible job. In the chief minister’s office, we take decisions and you get them implemented,” she said on April 25.

Maryam is the first woman chief minister in Pakistan’s history. She was sworn in as the CM on February 26 after securing the maximum number of votes in the election for the coveted slot.
Maryam secured 220 votes while the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) candidate for CM Rana Aftab Iqbal did not get any votes as the SIC members staged a boycott.
