Pakistan was fully focused on the T20 World Cup, skipper Babar Azam said on Monday as the team prepares for the mega event due next month in the United States and West Indies.

“We are making efforts to show the best performance,” he said at a press conference in Lahore that was centred on the preparations for the England, Ireland series, and the World Cup.

It will be the first major international cricket tournament played in the US, with a sell-out crowd expected for the clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan at a temporary 34,000-seat venue in Long Island, New York.

The blockbuster contest between Pakistan and India at the T20 World Cup would be held on June 9 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.

Babar added that the team would focus on the fitness of players during the two tours. He expressed hope that pacer Haris Rauf would perform well after coming from rest. He was injured during the Pakistan Super League earlier this year.

“We made the decision while seeing what was best for the team,” the skipper said and added that fast bowler Aamir Jamal would take time to shine.

He maintained that the Test match performance cannot be compared with the T20I performance.
